I introduce myself …
Excursions with a volcanological guide to Europe’s highest active volcano

#unmododiversodivivereletna
My name is Davide Sabatino, and my love of nature and passion for running have led me to spend much of my free time on the mountain trails of the high Madonie mountains, a fantastic place in the Sicilian hinterland where I was born and where I began to fall in love with mountain running.
In 2010, almost by chance, I learned that my passion had a very specific name, trail running, and that it was also practised in Sicily where various events were held.
Driven by passion but also curiosity, I decided to register and participate in one of these races held not far from my home and I haven’t stopped since …
Healthy competition and the contexts in which the competitions took place led me to participate in as many events as I could with the desire to always discover new territories.
Often I have returned home tired, sometimes even exhausted, and sometimes I have found myself wondering why I was doing it, but I have systematically gone back out on the trails because the well-being and the feelings of serenity and peace that each experience leaves me with each time are such that I forget a few moments of discouragement.
As the years went by, the distances I was able to cover while having fun increased and, in addition to the Sicilian trails, I began to discover how much beauty our land can give us by going around the world with a pair of shoes on my feet.
I am increasingly convinced that what we can imagine as beautiful already exists in the world and is often around us, we just don’t always remember to observe it.
The mountain trails also took me to Etna, an area that at first glance, I remember, seemed too black, but in a very short time this land managed to make me fall in love with it to the point that I decided to leave my job as an engineer to become a Volcanological Guide.
Everyone should at least once in their life experience Etna to feel its vitality, its strength and try to absorb its energy, here the paths do not only change according to the seasons but also morphologically according to the activity of the volcano and this makes everything more exciting.
Today I am a Volcanological Guide regularly enrolled in the Regional College of Alpine and Volcanological Guides of Sicily and the awareness I have of myself, combined with the desire I have to transmit the passion I have for nature, accompany me every day around the already beaten paths in search of ever new sensations but also to discover new paths yet to be explored, with the certainty that the places where we will find ourselves walking or running together will give magic to the experience and we will only have to savour its beauty.
If I have the pleasure of guiding you to Etna, I hope that the experience that we will have together will allow you, why not, to discover not only the volcano but also something more about yourself, as happens to me every time I go on a tour and come back enriched in spirit.
To conclude, it is only fair that I be completely honest with you who have read this far, I must inform you that Etna is addictive and I cannot guarantee that you won’t fall in love with it too.
